“Okay men! we set off!” Piener says, before setting off from the Riliconian mainland. His mission is to provide aid to the areas affected by The Mount Agung eruption, including Rilicon’s south western islands, and Javnia itself. “We’ll be heading to Arvenia first, then we’ll go and aid Javnia!”
smooth sailing; thirty minutes in
“Admiral!” one of the crew yells, clearly distressed “there’s something in the water!”
“What is it, recruit?” Piener asks, grabbing his crossbow. He walks across the deck, and looks over the side
“is it a whale?” the recruit asks
“No,” Piener says, a look of slight confusion on his face
“a shark?” the recruit asks, clearly becoming more distressed
“Recruit” Piener looks at the recruit’s tag “James, go get the rest of the crew. we’re dealing with a Croc.”
James runs to get the crew, leaving Piener by the edge. “A Javniasuchus. not just any Javniasuchus, a dominus.”
Javniasuchus is the scientific name designated to all crocodyliform of the eastern hemisphere, with a Javniasuchus Dominus being the largest species known
Piener aims his crossbow at the silhouette in the water, aiming for the side of its head. He fires, and after the shot, the string was already drawn back and ready to fire again. the crossbow was an advanced version of what was made hundreds of years ago, used when silence and strength are more necessary, and is one of the main weapons of the Riliconian armed forces.
The bolt hits the water, and an audible ting can be heard , as the bolt floats upwards. after the ting, the crocodile slams its head into the boat. the boat rattles under the force.
“Men!” Piener yells out, as James got all the crew out of their quarters “grab your weapons, and aim for the head!”
the crew lines up along the side of the deck, crossbows and rifles drawn
“Aim!”
the crew hoists their weapons up, aiming down sights and aiming at the crocodiles head
“Steady!”
“Fire!”
the uproar of twangs and gunshots fill the air, and are fired until their is no more ammunition in the weapons. When they look down, the silhouette is gone, leaving nothing in the water but floating bolts. the crew cheers, but Piener stays completely silent.
“James. come here. grab that rope over there, and hand it to me.”
“Yes, Sir!” James says, grabbing the rope and doing as he says “may I ask why you’re wanting it?”
“hold this,” Piener says, handing the rope to James. “to answer your question, I’m just going diving,” Piener says, before diving off the ship
There’s no way something that size would leave nothing behind, He thinks to himself. He looks around, and pushes out of the way of the open jaws of the croc. I need to get under it, or get it in the eyes. He waits for the croc to rush him again, and dives downwards, firing a bolt into its stomach. the bolt sticks, but doesn’t go in very far. okay, one more shot. better make it count this time, when the crocodile rushes him, he doesn’t move. he doesn’t try to move, but his world is in slow motion. He aims into the crocodile’s mouth, jaws wide open, and waits.
He waits,
5 seconds to impact,
4 seconds to impact,
3 seconds to impact,
2 seconds to impact,
1 bolt flies through the water, landing on the roof of the Javniasuchus’s mouth. the the suchus dives down, and Piener drives upwards to catch his breath. He sits gasping at the surface of the water, the crew looking down upon him.
“did you get it?” a member of the crew asks
“It’s still alive, but we should be fine! pull me up!” Piener orders
He’s dragged onto the ship, his breathing steadying as he lays on the deck. “What are you lollygaggers doing? Get back to work! I’ll be fine!” He laughs, as the crew chuckles and returns to their posts.
