CLASSIFIED DOCUMENT: LOG OF PARTICIPANT 001’s EXPERIENCE DURING IMPLEMENTATION OF EXPERIMENT AND DAY 1
Karl Trushaw, otherwise known as Participant 001, is the first subject of the ARK simulations. this is his experience entering the simulation, to day 1 of the simulation (Day 1 in the simulation, approximately 1 hours of real time)
Karl is strapped into a chair that looks a lot like a dentist’s chair. It felt nice and plush, but still had the coldness of a doctor’s room to it. He looks around the room. The room is mostly just a painted white room, with the only other objects in the room being more plush chairs and headsets like the one over his head. The scientist in the room with him asks him one last time
“Now, Karl, you know what you’re going into, and you completely agree?”
Karl smiles, not showing any sign of fear. “I’m ready. Strap me in”
The scientist straps Karl into the chair, and lowers the headset over his head. He hears a button click on the headset, before a series of flashing lights flicks on in the headset. Karl instantly feels his memory slipping
Who, where, and why am I here?
I’m Karl Trushaw, I’m in a government facility, and I’m training to become an agent of WARA
10 seconds pass
Wait, who, where, and why am I here?
I’m Karl Trushaw, I’m in a… government facility? Why am I here?
20 seconds
Who…?
Karl. right? I am Karl?
30 seconds
Karl wakes up with no recollection of who, where, or why he’s here.
whe- who am I? He asks, confused, and looking desperately around him
Arm, Recruit, Kill The mantra repeats in his mind
“Who was that?” he asks, scared, and still confused by his surroundings
He looks around, seeing the surrounding wilderness. He’s on a sand coast, the light wind hitting his face with salty spray. He feels the sand beneath his feet, and there’s palm trees where the coast meets the grass. In the distance, there’s a large mountain, towering above all other landscape
Before he could marvel at the surroundings, he heard in his mind again, Arm, Recruit, Kill, before feeling something heavy hit his back. On his fall, he flips over to face the weight. He notices scaly skin, sharp teeth, and a hooked toe on each foot. His back hits the ground, and his reaction speed is impeccable. He uses his strong legs to push the beast away from him, before standing up. The thing rushes him again, and he gets a better look at it. He had only seen anything like it in movies, or maybe museums
This thing was a raptor.
before he gets over the shock, the thing pounces back on him. It’s smaller than he remembers the one from movies, but still bigger than any lizard around. He kicks the raptor in the stomach, hard. There was a sickening crunch, before the lizard fell to the ground, motionless. the voice repeating the mantra in his head says KILL.
What am I doing? Where am I? What should I do? Karl wonders, slightly panicking.
Arm, Recruit, Kill.
“arm… like weaponry?” Karl asks, picking long strands of fiber from a bush, a well shaped rock from the ground, and a good length stick, before trying to tie the rock to the stick, attempting to make a primitive pickaxe. He fails the first few times, but after around 30 minutes of trying to tie it together, he finally succeeds.
ARM
So, I just need to advance. I’m human. I can adapt. right? Karl finds a large boulder, before hitting it with the pickaxe. Once he broke into it, he found an orange rock, that started sending sparks off from him
“Hey, I think I read about this! but, I don’t remember anything…” He remembers the information, and knows he found flint, which can hold an edge better, but not where he read it, or what his name is, or why he’s here.
Anyway, all that matters is surviving the day. If there are more of those things, then I need some defense. He grabs more strands from a bush, grabs another stick, and ties the flint together with the stick to form a primitive axe. He accidentally cuts the rope multiple times when tying the string on it, but once he gets it right, he lays it onto a rock on the ground, before beating the edge with a different rock. the flint cracks, and he restarts. once he gets it how it’s supposed to be again, he beats it with a rock. It forms a sharp edge, and he walks over to the raptor’s corpse. He gently carves the hide off with a piece of flint, before cleaving the meat off.
“Uck, let’s not get the bones integrated again.” Karl says, holding what remains of the ribs.
He uses the axe he made to cleave a tree down, and his pickaxe to get some stone, making a fire. He cooks the raptor’s meat over a spit, and crafts a spear while he waits for it to cook. By the time he’s done with everything, it’s dark out. He eats what he cooked, the raptor being very gamy and chewy, while not tasting terrible. he uses the hide he found to make a sleeping bag, before slinking into and sleeping troublingly.
