Reason for Applying
IC: Under Chief Councilwoman Rudenko’s leadership, the number one priority for the Republic is prosperity of Greica’s regional neighbors, allies, and acquaintances that is mutually beneficial for the economic, cultural, and societal growth of all involved. The legitimization of the Greican political process and influence outside Her borders is number two. The United Commonwealth provides a healthy avenue of development and the steadfast population of the Republic is bound and determined to make their mark on the world.
OOC: My skills in worldbuilding, statecraft, and writing in an official manner would be a boon to the region. I have had experience as a World Assembly Delegate and RP “Dungeon Master” for one other Region, known as Prudentia, which saw its peak during my tenure. Even now, contact information for me is listed on the WFE as a “leader of the region during it’s final days,” despite the hostile takeover that occurred immediately following my departure for personal reasons. Greica is currently being reimagined, and below is the extensive (albeit somewhat vague) fruits of that labor, consisting of the guidelines I’ve given myself as part of this rewrite:
GOVERNMENT
The government of Greica is a constitutional democratic republic, with three branches: an elected bicameral legislative branch, semi-elected executive branch, and a judiciary consisting of a pool of judges from the provinces coalesced into a system of courts. No electoral college exists.
This is supported by regular, mandatory elections and separation of power enforced by the court system. The legislative branch is a house of elected citizens from each major city-state and a house of citizens from each province selected by the provincial governor. Executive Power is disseminated to ministries, whose directly-elected leaders make up a council. The national head, a somewhat procedural position that represents the nation domestically and internationally, is selected amongst the council of ministers, who always retain power over their ministry. Provinces present judges to the national pool using a merit-based selection process, which feeds into the national court system.
This system exists as a reaction to a prior dictatorship in the nation’s history and is reinforced by its secular structure, excluding religion from day-to-day governance.
ECONOMY
The economy of Greica is a mixed economy, with both public and private entities. Publicly funded entities generally consist of infrastructure such as water, energy, network, etc…
This is supported by minimal government grants and targeted, specific regulation of private business, to encourage competition. International trade is also heavily encouraged as part of a national drive to regional dominance. Information Technology, Tourism, and Arms Manufacturing are all driving forces of the Greican economy.
The mixed economy exists as a reaction to failed communism during the dictatorship era and the risks of unchecked private power when it comes to civil freedoms. The public is involved in fiscal decisions and thus such decisions rarely diverge from the national interest.
MILITARY
The military of Greica is led by civilians in the executive branch and thus answers to the people. It is deterrence based with a focus on its regional partners and enemies. Greica has a somewhat aggressive regional neighbor.
The military is supported by the bustling Greican economy. There is also a mandatory service period that is largely supported by the citizenry as a point of national pride. The nation’s foreign policy is a driving factor behind defense spending.
Greica’s position as a regional powerhouse and the presence of an aggressive neighbor state serves as justification for the scope and scale of the armed forces.
SOCIETY
The people of Greica are highly secular, filled with national pride, and are heavily involved in national politics.
While secular, the people of Greica generally accept private practice of religion but see organized religion as dangerous. Political processes are routine and covered in education curricula, encouraging citizenry to stay up-to-date even after graduating. Defense spending is viewed as a necessity.
Much of the societal standards are a byproduct of citizens wishing to avoid the failures of those who allowed the previous regime to come into power, and clashes with the aggressive regional neighbor justify defense as a necessity.
FOREIGN POLICY
Greica is a regional power and has an aggressive neighbor. Foreign Policy focuses on maintaining regional alliances and discouraging aggression from geographic neighbors. Greican sovereignty is high priority.
The stability of Greican domestic life, strong economy enhanced by regional trade, and healthy defense expenditures provide the method through which Greica can dedicate resources to foreign policy. Interregional trade encourages the development of both military and trade alliances.
The Greican populace values the strength of its regional alliances, and sees the value of economic growth that this brings. Domestically enforced secularism draws ire of religious regional neighbors, and the foreign policy reflects the national pride surrounding the secular approach to domestic living.
Economic Contribution
Greica has a strong mixed economy supported by the arms manufacturing industry, information technology, and tourism. Greica has an abundance of untapped natural resources, specifically oil and rare earth metals, due to a cultural-level respect for the environment restricting the ability of companies to freely strip the land bare for the purposes of capitalizing on those resources. Labor laws in Greica are also strict, as civil freedoms are highly valued within Her borders. Greica is open to international trade, both public and private, and Her borders are largely open for crossing.
